I received the 4mm Contact and 6mm Connect DIY with FeelTrue™ Outsoles a few days ago.

What struck me immediately was the "coolness" of the sole. They are huaraches but have a finished feel. I have not seen Luna Sandals but they are certainly on par with pictures I have seen. Comparing my old 4mm Vibram Cherry to the rubber of the new FeelTrue™ Outsoles, the FeelTrue are slightly more flexible and offered a little more ground feel yet seemed to stay tighter to the foot. The 6mm are a little stiffer than the 4mm cherry and about the same ground feel and stayed tight to the foot while running using the slip on tying method. I intentionally ran over rocks, twigs and small patched of glass and whatever I could find, the 6mm Connect offers a little more protection than the 4mm Cherry.

What I really like is that sending Steven my foot length, the sole fits perfect. I could trim a tad bit off one foot since my feet are different sizes but I cannot bring myself to mangle the beautiful craftsmanship. They just look too damn good to hack up with my dull scissors. The bottom tread pattern has this cool Chevron design and yesterday running I stepped into a patch of clay mud rounding a corner. I immediately tensed because in my VFF's I would have slipped but these seemed to hold their own. I have not taken them four wheeling yet but they seem to have decent traction, as much as my KSO Treks maybe and definitely more than the Cherry outsole material.

Last in my short review is the design of the lace holes. Thicker material where needed so they will last longer. I’ve not had trouble with my Cherry Huaraches but I was always concerned in a bind they might rip. Not these, the material is about 50% thicker at the lace holes for added strength.

I’ll be giving them more workouts and as I form other opinions I’ll be posting a more extensive review but for now, this is my take.

Sort of off topic but not is one thing I learned. The one major problem I have always had with any Huarache sandal is the knot between the toes. I always feel it. Using InvisibleShoe's lacing material I was able to tie a figure 8 knot then heat it up with a flame and smash the knot flat with some pliers. This made it easy to position the knot so that it lays flat right from the git go and I cannot feel it. That alone put a huge Run Smiley smile on my face!

Good Job Steven and Crew! Bravo!

Looking forward to receiving mine and seeing how they stack up against the Luna

I bought the bullet this morning and place an order.

I haven't put anything on my feet for so long now that I don'r know how it will feel to run with sandals.

Great review Lava.

I'll be interested in how they stack up against the Luna

Yesterday I put on the 6mm Connect and went for a walk. I realized that for just a walk, they are a little too much sole, at least for me. Maybe I was just feeling tired and I was feeling the added weight. The 4mm was much more happy on my feet for just going to the store and shopping.

Something else I am discovering is that when I first put them on, "them" being any Huarache, they bug me. I just can't get past the string between the toe. It is irritating and sensitive. This is why I just haven't completey addapted to huaraches. However after about 10 minutes I am completely unaware that it is there. Have you ever noticed this?

The feel true sole is fine.

The feel true sole is fine. Not much you can say about rubber. I never had a issue with 4mm cherry though could not resist 14.95 to try the new stuff. The main improvement with the 4mm feel true is slighty more ground feel, and the front of sole does not flop under. It forms to your sole more so then the cherry. I use the 6mm cherry sometimes for hiking in forest. That thickness does not flop under in front. So I see no need for the 6mm feel true. The 4mm feel true is just a town sandal as needed for me. I bought the equus on sale, and let me tell you what a big waste of money. The 4mm feel true will be my main min town sandal. I'll use my 4mm cherry in my shop. Just leave them by the door ready for when I enter. If the feel true was not offered to me at 50% off I would have just kept using the cherry. Anyway set now on sandals. The sandal search is over. No need to look any further.

Have you thought about an

Have you thought about an alternative tying method, Lava? That's what I did for mine, since I couldn't stand the lace between the toes and the knot underneath. I can't run in them due to the neuromas, but they're great for walking around in. Does anyone have the link to the how-to video for the alternative tying method for Lava? Lava, you could search You Tube too.

There are a lot of alternate

There are a lot of alternate tying styles on the Invisible Shoes page, just go to the "Tying" link at the top. There's at least one no-toe-hole version (the video under, "Here’s Sonja’s 'No-Toe tying method'") -- there may be more, but anyway there are a bunch of tying videos collected there.

Wait, Lava, you're saying you

Wait, Lava, you're saying you got the custom ones right? I guess I'm too cheap to fork up the extra money, but I would like a better looking pair. The ones I put together myself, well, you can tell I made them myself. And I had one of the holes tear through, so I made another one, but the back of that shoe now flops down when I run. Kinda annoying.

Danjo, They are not custom. I

Danjo, They are not custom. I gave them my foot meausrement and they sent the size required. I'll probably do some slight trimming but for now they are fine. I don't want to trim too much and regret it so I am putting that off a few weeks

TJ, I'll look at alternate tying methods but I doubt I'll use any. I just need to get used to the string between the toes. I have the same issue wth flip flops when I havent worn them for a few months.

Here's a direct link to Sonja's tying method: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFuUtsA5oew It's what I have used on mine cause I didn't like the cord between my toes. One nice thing about this is that you only have to put two more holes in your already made huarches (if they're already set up with the original tying method). That way you can switch back and forth if desired.

After running in these a few

After running in these a few times, developing blisters between the toes and toughing it out.
These are my new GoTo shoe for anytime I can get away with them.
The Contact is by far my Fave however I still throw on the thicker and slightly heavier Connect
