Would it be counter-productive to do a long run right after a massage?

Normally I wouldn't, but planning on doing a long run soon, and the rail trail I'm going to run starts near were the massage place is. It would save me over an hour of driving to combine trips (plus gas to feed the big V10). I'm not opposed to making a second trip but this week there aren't a lot of other options for a long run. I'm indecisive. Anyone think it would make any difference?

I think it would feel great and be good for your body.

Depends on the goal of the massage: Relaxation? Injury treatment? Prevention? Recovery? In which area?

E.g., if this was a massage of neck/head area to cure headaches, it might be totally OK to run. If it was a massage of your calves to recover, it would be a really bad idea. If it was just a normal relaxing full body massage - well, if you usually run in the morning or between shifts, I don't think it would be a problem, but depending on your fitness level vs. distance it might be a waste of money on the massage.

Since this is not self-massage, and you did not mention any injury, I guess it is a normal relaxing massage. I would not run after that. I would rather relax and sleep.

Well nothing specific really. The last couple years I've got a medium/deep tissue massage before and/or after a big spring and fall race. This year I didn't do the big fall race so it had been since spring that I had a massage. A little over a week ago I had a really busy day (Thanksgiving) where I moved a ~700 lb woodstove from the garage into my house and got it set on the hearth (all by myself). After that I ran a fairly quick long run, then stayed up on my feet late cooking a big dinner. I was pretty tired and sore! Especially my back and shoulders from the woodstove move. Having to work the next several days on nightshifts didn't help either. But by the time I called to get an appointment the next time that working with my schedule wasn't until tomorrow. All the soreness from moving the stove is gone, so no big goal for this session. My right calf is bothering me like usual though, and I've been ramping up my mileage the last month so noticed it a bit more than usual.

Besides saving me a trip driving, I was planning on running with Yvonne, which is the main reason I was still contemplating it. But we are trying to work out a different time. I've had a good streak going - I usually don't run back to back and its been several days of runs for me, so perhaps time for a day off anyhow.
