Took the day off work today and slept in after working on rebuilding the south section of wooden privacy fence on our property all weekend.

Did some stretches after waking up and headed out to the trail. Ran 6 miles and had a good run! Very humid morning and cloudy. Nice breeze though. Had not run that for about a week but had no problems.

Back to working on the fence later this afternoon.

There must be a bug going around. I skipped out on running all of last week also! Just tired or lazy (-- I am asking myself - not you, GB!)?? But I did go to the gym and walked around a lot according to my usual schedule. This morning I did get in 5.7 miles. It was a later than usual start for my Monday mornings but I met a neighbor on route and she were ran with me part of the way. Hopefully, I will resume my weekly routine. My feet and ankles were a bit tender all day but I trust it will pass.

5 mile run at 4:30 am 77 deg. f. 65% Rh.
Clear skies nice morning for running in the neighborhood. Lot of stars.

I did end up taking a light week last week. This Monday, I tried 10.5 miles for starters, which went well overall. Running doesn't seem to make anything worse, though, so I am experimenting with making sure my form is light, and some massaging. It doesn't hurt all the time or in a consistent way or predictably from certain activities, so the best I can figure is some sort of tendinitis. The only time the pain was really bad was one day when I tried to slip on my normal flip-flops. I hardly ever wear them, so I don't think that is what brought this on, but it is all still a mystery.

I am still enjoying running too much to stop, and after running a few other days during the week, anywhere from 2 - 6 miles on any given day, today it feels the best it has all week, being barely noticeable. I am pleased to have enjoyed 28.7 miles for the week's total, with the normal spin biking and swimming some days.

Hello Runners.

Sorry for my absence. I had a couple of mid 30 mile weeks. Some good trail runs and maintenance miles. Last week was 45 miles with a great moonlight run of 9 miles at a 8:13 pace, felt very comfortable. Another run was a 16 mile trail run with a couple of friends. They are faster, so I was quite humbled. I considered myself in pretty good shape and altitude conditioned.

Very little barefoot running, about half sandal miles and half shod. The stickers and weeds are miserable on the farm right now. The bottom of my feet can handle it just fine, it is the ichys on the tops and ankles. Other option is seeking out pavement which is out because of silage harvest going on, don't want to get the dogs hit. The last option is the gravel roads but I have a bit of a stone bruise I'm nursing. So I have been lazy and throwing on the shoes.

Planning a double marathon this weekend. I'll see how the sandals work for the first and possibly barefoot some of the second. I'll keep you posted.

Hope things went well Rick, be sure to let us know... and what is a double marathon, 2 separate marathons the same weekend or something else?

This week was another light running week for me but I got in some good cycling miles. It was my on-call week at work, and I ended up getting called in for 4 nightshifts. Normally I can still get a workout in on a nightshift except every day I had to pick up my son from school do to my ex's work schedule and that hits me right in the middle of the small window I have in the afternoon so couldn't really do much else. However before my first nightshift I ran on Monday, just a really easy 2 miles to see how the legs were doing after the race. Then I worked 4 nights in a row, and Thursday I was able to get a quick 12 mile bike ride in. Friday biked 26 miles, and ran on Saturday 7.5. Sunday was just such a beautiful fall day I extended my shorter ride into a 37 mile ride from my house to the end of the first bike path and back. Skies were so beautiful blue and white clouds I tried to take a few pics. Here is one of an old factory that has been turned into a park. The stack is now re-purposed as an observation tower you can go up.

Also happy to report that on this beautiful blue fall day I crossed 1,000 miles on the bike for the year! While that isn't anything big compared to most cyclist it is the first time I've done that in a year and biking is just secondary to my running anyhow (and I only do it during the warmer weather months, started this year with my first ride in April. It's also mainly for fun - unfortunately I can't commute on my bike or anything like that, but I may take an occasional trip to the store on it, plus bike to the park to run instead of drive. Also at a bit of a disadvantage according to most roadies, with vintage bike and then biking barefoot. But I don't think so. The bike performs great, and being a high end bike in its day its not nearly as heavy as most of the other steel bikes from the 80's. Yesterdays ride was a bit windy, with 10 miles of small hills and then 27 miles relatively flat rail trail. I averaged 17.55 mph (including all the warm up and cool down) medium-hard effort. Topped out around 32mph on a couple of the small downhills. Getting slightly faster throughout the year. Early summer my times for shorter trips where 16ish mph.

So the week total... 9.5mi running and 76mi cycling

I think your post contradicts the "lazy" self-accusation. :p We each have to work with all the variables in our lives as best we can. I have lately been mostly running on my mile pond loop because I just can't mentally deal with either the cars or the fresh chip seal that keeps getting applied. Hope you had fun with your double!

Sorry for the confusing term. I guess I am running one marathon after a 26 mile warm up. Every year a handful of people run the Saint George Marathon (largest marathon in Utah) as a double. Meaning starting up the course from the finish line early in the morning and then running the main marathon back down. The trick is timing, you don't want to start the marathon late (imaging trying to get to the start with 7000 runners baring down on you), but you don't want to get there too early and freeze and stiffen up. Last year I did the up portion with 3 friends then they continued with their marathon and I went to the hills for more running. Some think it is an ego thing and that we are showing off, but it is really fun (at least the first 20 miles, then the traffic hits, buses and aid workers, etc. It was really neat running at night on a deserted road knowing that chaos would happen the next day). I have no idea how the marathon will go.

Nice job on the cycling. I need to find some cross training that I enjoy. Snow for cross country skiing is a long way off.
