So my beautiful 10-month old (and also the reason I don't post much) has started walking. My wife goes to the gym and normally drops her off at the gym daycare. Today they wouldn't admit her because she was barefoot and "could trip".

What are the legitimate reasons a kid should have to wear shoes in daycare? GO!

And by legitimate reasons, I'm looking for rebuttals... I can't really think of any real reasons unless they're playing on blacktop pavement at noon in Texas... And there are other reasons not to do that anyway.

so shoes would stop her from tripping? you've obviously never watched a baby who is just learning how to walk have shoes placed on them. even a blind drunk would make fun of the way the walk.

you could tone it down a bit if you don't want to see an adult cry.

My thoughts exactly. My wife is less quick witted on the topic of barefeet for the kiddo. I kind of laughed when she said they were worried about tripping... I was wondering how shoes would prevent incidental contact with objects above the foot that impede normal forward motion and lead to the center of gravity of said child beyond their motor function ability to prevent from them from falling over. Then I wondered if there is something wrong with their processes that they're readily concerned with trip hazards in the care center.

You can trip in shoes or out of them. You're more likely to trip IN them because of the lack of sensory feedback.

She's a baby. Her feet are developing, forming, shaping. Now is really the time to let them be as free as possible for as long as possible for as much as possible.

If you have to go to this daycare, then why not use some grippy, baby (not tight) socks? Perhaps that would be a fair trade off (to them)?

I dunno if we'll keep going, or know anything of their actual rules. My wife does the working out (I'm lucky aren't I :)) and I just stick to running these days because I don't have much time in the evenings and running is my favorite thing to do anyway. She seems to think they have to wear shoes if they're in day care. Now she wants to leave the gym and go to another one... Whatever makes her happy.
