Mileage Reporting Week 15 of 2015

Don't you have more to say than I do????
Not really, but it's perhaps noteworthy that on Sunday I managed about two miles total running. It was on the bridge circuit I took you guys on last fall, between Franklin and Marshall Bridges, about 3.6 miles total. Since the Winter Challenge is over, I didn't bother to get the exact temp, but my feet numbed up some. I managed to run four, approximately 1/2-mile sections. I kept waiting for my tender left big toe met head to start hurting, but my legs and feet felt fine. So overall, a great confidence booster; I can run normally, for short distances at least, once again. My hills work over the last few weeks has paid off I guess.

I'll probably continue with hills work during the week and then try another aerobic run next weekend. Once I can run this circuit continuously, I'll either start pushing the pace, the distance, or both. I could see this circuit becoming my tempo run route, and the longer bridge circuit to the south, about six miles, becoming my base aerobic run route, for a Hills/Tempo/LSD weekly running routine.

So, to sum, I'm feeling a little like a runner again, and so will hopefully start contributing more to this forum.

Happy trails everyone!

5 mile run at 5:00 am. 70 deg. f. cool breeze.
To overcast for stars or moon but lots and lots of rabbits.

Some days I have little issues here and there and think maybe I should not go out.
But almost always wind up very glad I did.

Been a couple weeks since I chimed in. Now that nicer weather has rolled in I'm stoked to get back at it.

Of course now its suppose to rain every day this week. :meh:

Starting last weekend, I got a 6.4 mi run in Saturday, just a moderate run.

Sunday I took out my new/old roadbike for its maiden voyage of 12.7 miles and actually got my fastest mile yet at a 23.25mph average (just for 1 mile). Yeah not super speedy, especially considering I had a pretty good tailwind helping me, but I'm still new to road biking. After the ride I hoped off and ran 2 miles, trying to start doing runs and rides back to back to get used to what a duathlon will be like. Wow the legs felt weird after the bike ride! Going to take some getting used too.

Monday did a long run with Yvonne. She was late so a got a bit of a warmup in first. Total 12.6 mi. Felt good to be back into double digits, though this barely counts as a long run. Sprinkled on us a little but no big deal. Got to get ready for a half marathon next weekend though. I plan on taking that one easy, then I have another one 2 weeks later which I really wanted to get a good time at. Don't think I really have enough time for real 'training' at this point though unfortunately.

And today went out for a 10.8mi easy ride on the bike, thought it would do good just to stretch the legs out after yesterdays long run. Didn't push hard at all, just a casual 14.3mph average. Chance of storms all day. I gambled, and lucked out today and didn't get wet.

Ran 15 miles around my pond loop today. Went really well for the first 13 miles at a fun, but comfortable pace. As usual, my legs got tired rather than me having any trouble with air intake. Mile 14 slowed a bit, and mile 15 was really slow. Ended up with a couple of minor bloody spots and feet are a touch tender, but my legs feel good. That was after doing quite a few squats mopping floors around home. That brings the week's total to 24.2 and I should get in another 10 total in the next 2 days. Have been getting my biking in 2 days a week, and swimming 4, as well. I seem to be insatiably hungry now...trying not to over compensate. :hungry:

5 miles yesterday (snuck out at lunch from work) at my old nature trail. I saw some really nice spring flowers and bluebonnets.

5 miles this morning at 4:30.
The moon was about 1/2 and had a light cloud haze over it but still enough to see good.
I heard one owl and it made an nice run tip top.
I got in a little flow here and there (ah yes!)

I'll post a bit this week, trying to sort out a workable schedule the last few weeks...here is where I'm at:

Monday - ST barbell workout
Tuesday - 30 min barefoot trail run just after sunrise
Wed - 30 min barefoot trail run just after sunrise, evening ST barbell workout
Thurs - 30 min barefoot trail run just after sunrise
Fri - unplanned rest day arrived home too late from work...been doing ST workouts on Fridays the last few weeks.

Hope to get in a couple 1 hour+ runs over the weekend...at least one trail run.

Think I may need to settle at this distance for a little while. Things seem to start aching a bit around the 4.5-5k mark, and I don't want to undo the progress I've made so far.

Yup...no sense in overdoing it...you have plenty of time to build up. It takes awhile to build up the the body awareness to know how far to push it and when to lay back.

I have been very slack recently...My running has suffered from the arrival of Autumn (darker early mornings), but that's just my excuse to try to justify my slackness !

On Tuesday I participated in a weekly runner gathering in Sydney CBD to do intervals in the Botanical garden. The settings are wonderful, but I found myself with a bunch of 20 or 30 year old runners who run much faster than me.

I managed to get my HR to climb to max (158!!!). I will go back this coming Tuesday, just because I don't like getting flogged like that.

Today I am going out for a 15km, which will make my weekly total go just over 20km....I hope things will get better

6km run around Temple Newsam grounds this morning. First 1.91km without a walking break :)
.

Well lets see...

Monday: 12.6mi barefoot long run
Tuesday: 10.8mi easy bike ride between rain showers (plus 30-40 flights of stairs at work on nightshift)
Wednesday: nadda (pouring rain, though I did get some stairs in on the nightshift, 40-60 flights)
Thursday: zilch (pouring rain, though I did get some stairs in on the nightshift, 40-60 flights)
Friday: 6.2mi barefoot run, modest pace
Saturday: 19.5mi bike ride with some effort, 16mph avg.
Sunday: 8.5mi barefoot run, pushed the pace up for two 2mi stretches up to a little bit faster than my 1/2 marathon pace. Kind of late seeing how its only 3 weeks away but at least I can get a few speed workouts in.

Not much to finish up this last week.
I came down with a TERRIBLE virus wednesday night into Thursday. High fever, sore throat, aches, you name it. the works.

I took a gentle walk on Thursday, a hike with the kids Friday and Saturday because the weather was nice and you can't stay in bed all day.
However, I was in bed whining or trying to sleep it off otherwise.

On Friday I went on a five mile barefoot run. It was my first attempt at running since stubbing my big left toe on April 2. The big toe was still tender but not painful. The bruise on top of the toe around the nail was starting fade after a week. My soles were pretty sore after the run! I also missed my Monday run this week to let my big toe recover. My Monday morning pattern has been broken.

Boo. I was sick last week, too. Miserable. So frustrating. But I'm better now and will report on the appropriate week.

Being around kids(and around kids who are around other kids a lot), means I get exposed to everything going around. Some are nuisances. Some knock me down!
You have a lot of natural energy, so you understand how awful it feels to not have that energy for even just a few days. It makes me wonder how I would handle a chronic illness. If I don't have energy and get exercise, I'm really no fun at all.
