3.5 mi, 35F, no windchill, Franklin-Marshall Bridge loop. Feet felt a little numb, slept in a bit, so got to see the sunrise for a change. This is looking northwest, towards downtown Minneapolis as its skyscrappers reflect the sunrise in the east, behind me.

Also ran counterclockwise around the bridges. Hmmn, I think I like that better.

very pretty photo. :)

Finally, I am feeling recuperated from the marathon and was able to really enjoy an easy 8 miles today. I did exercise lightly all last week, including a 3 mile run and a 4 mile run that will qualify for the winter challenge, but todya's run was too warm at 52 degrees F.

Sunday - 36 mile shod mountain journey. Checking out the course for a new Ultra next year. http://ultra-adventures.com/events/capitol-reef/

Not too much elevation change, but most of the "run" (ok, it was mostly hiking because the trail was so difficult to locate) was at 10,500 to 11,000 ft. Nice to get the altitude conditioning back after being at sea level. It's been a dry fall and normally these areas would have been snowed in.

Yesterday, I rode the spin bike for 60 minutes, ate a quick, light lunch, then swam for a straight 30 minutes. The pool heater was having trouble, so it was unexpectedly chilly water, but I stuck it out.

Today, Wednesday, I ran a low key 5 miles with my doggie, but I kicked up my heels a bit for the last quarter mile, just for fun. Upper body work included stirring and kneading a four loaf batch of bread dough. Then, I had to toast some of the fresh bread at bedtime, because I was hungry and I don't sleep well when I'm hungry!

Well I still havent run in a week and a few days. Feeling like I could though. Monday I did 16.6 miles on the old LeTour. Felt good to at least be out on the bikepath enjoying the fall weather. Which reminds me it suppose to hit 50 today but with full sun so should feel great out there. Must try to get out for a jog. In the meantime I've been really working the opposite half of my body swinging an axe. maybe about 4-5 full cords or so of firewood to split by hand, was hoping to have it mostly done by the end of this week but I am going to change that goal to maybe the end of the year!

I did get my first post-marathon run in today! Went out shortly after I posted earlier. Funny I mentioned it was suppose to be a bright sunny day - well the first half of my 3 mile run had some great sun, then it receded behind dark grey clouds, and stayed that way the rest of the day. :( At least I got to enjoy the sun while it was out. And I took the run very easy, but felt fine.

Speaking of splitting wood earlier...

I'll add a new activity to my barefoot list... I don't necessarily recommend doing it barefoot but I was getting annoyed with my feet getting hot and sweaty in boots so I said what the heck and kicked em off. With a 36" long axe and a small splitting block there wasn't much chance of a swing hitting my foot (but still very slight chance of course). Most likely issue is the splits shooting toward my foot or a round falling off the pile- both which happened at one point or another but I was surprised how quickly I can jerk my foot out of the way of something, without all the weight of steel toe boots on it or big lugs gripping the ground. Was also playing with my new interval timer on the camera, gave me something to experiment with. I may be a lightweight runner but I bet pound for pound I could give P. Bunyan a run for his money swinging an axe. :D

3.5 mi, 28F/12F windchill. Franklin-Marshall bridge circuit on Mississippi River.
The early morning runs have been going well this week, but today was the first where I brought my Sockwa G4s as back up. As it turns out, the numbing stopped after about a mile and then began to reverse itself, but the wind was still pretty fierce on the bridges. A very invigorating way to start the day!

I'm glad I'm fit enough now to run continuously because walking would've been hard today with that windchill. I knew a few weeks ago that time was running out to get back into minimal running shape, but looks like I made it.

Thursday - barely fit in 60 minutes on spin bike right before dinner

Friday - 5.2 mile run around noon at comfortable pace, except for mile 5 I ran at a more exhilarating pace 1.5 minutes faster. Then 20 minutes non- stop swimming in my moving current, plus rolling pizza dough for dear hubby's birthday party until my arms were exhausted for dinner.
