5th Annual Winter Challenge

Why?
I think this is about the only country that still uses °F - it's time these people followed the rest of the world! :p

Wikipedia said:
Fahrenheit (symbol °F) is a temperature scale based on one proposed in 1724 by the German physicist Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit (1686–1736)

It's all just a relative form of measurement with its own set of rules and significance, as much as its counterpart.

I also find it funny how people equally knock the use of imperial units or the English units of measure when in fact they possess some very interesting correlations with not only our fellow neighborly solar satellites, but also equally reflect a correspondence with our measurement of time as well.

Here's a link if anyone's interested: http://www.ancient-world-mysteries.com/units-of-measure.html

And a summary:
With the level of discrepancy between the British Imperial units of measure and the ‘ideally generated’ numerical values of the earth-moon system being practically none existent, no other conclusion is possible. Whoever thus established the Imperial units was quite simply a genius, for through this system one is able to naturally – in a true physical sense – combine units of time (which is a frequency) and units of apparent spatial extension.

Imperial units of measure as a whole are thus not merely arbitrary units of distance, but units that are tied in to a real natural physical cycle: that of the earth orbit about the sun itself.

I can't get the calculator to work on my mobile. Is this chart correct? If so, my 10c temp and 15mph wind speed looks cold for sat morning!!!

I usually do as Paul suggest... check out Environment Canada website for my locale. Note that they do not report windchill when the air temp is about 0°C. There may be differences in the reporting, but just try to get close. Like the Toes On the Road competitions ... if you think it is too warm then it probably is.

Just shows where the US gets all its juju from. We're channeling mystic powers. What chance does ISIS have against US?

I like Celsius, and it's also very naturalistic. When does H2O freeze? Let's call that zero. When does it boil (at sea level)? Let's call that 100.

I didn't spend much time on that link, but it was hard to follow that guy's argument. I'll have to look at it again later.

I'm a little disappointed that YOW is cutting us some slack this year. Since he's in an indulgent mood, maybe we can interest him in some treasury bonds too, so we can print more money? I hope YOW doesn't become known as the Jimmy Carter of barefoot measurements, giving up on converting 'merikans too easily.

The frostnip/frostbite penalty is most excellent by the way. I'm also hoping it helps keep me in line. This year I'm determined to avoid all moisture below freezing.

How do we avoid frost bite?
As long as your toes are red, you should be OK. If they go white, put on some socks and footwear immediately and go home. Also, any kind of moisture will bring on numbing and frostbite much quicker. Some numbing is OK for many of us, and some people can even run in snow. You have to figure out what your tolerances are through experimentation. Always bring back-up footwear when in doubt. You might want to browse past Winter Challenge threads for more info. All the best!

Oh. I have raynauds so my toes are hard to read anyway lol. (Although going barefoot is helping the raynauds)
I can't believe this, we both suffer from the same low back problems and now this, I too suffer from the same conditon.
Are we twins?

And remember that not only is everyone's cold ability different, but it also changes as you adapt to being barefoot more. The circulation in the feet improves, the foot muscles get more primed for producing some heat, the soles get more leathery.

You're such a sweet talker Laura:happy:

It's forecast to be 9 deg C when I'm planning to run tomorrow morning :)
