Watcha listenin' to?

Time for some metal for this thread. Probably my favorite metal band (besides the well known Metallica) is Iced Earth. They never really got that popular here though they did well in Europe. Biggest issue they had was turnover with their members, including multiple lead singers. I think they were best and most well known with lead singer Matt Barlow, who left the band after 9/11 to become a police officer. Its hard to classify their type, I suppose they leaned toward power metal. Most of Barlows stuff featured great vocals and very melodic. Many of their songs had a religious reference to it. Here is one of those I like...

Many of their songs were like the above with religious undertones, and they had a theme that spanned like a dozen or more songs across multiple albums about 'something wicked this way comes' which told a story about how humans weren't the original inhabitants and how they came to Earth and nearly wiped out all the Setians, and then the Setians plot for revenge and how the devil (Set) was actually their savior. They did several other fun themes, like a whole album about horror shows and characters, like this one I really like about the wolf man:

They later recorded a couple albums with lead singer Tim Ripper Owens from Judas Priest, had a few good songs in there, some about previous themes, some about more modern history like Gettysburg, etc.

And finally the band has current lead singer Stu Block, and their newer stuff is much heavier. The latest stuff mixes everything from their old-testament inspired metal to songs about movies like V for Vendetta, Soylent Green, and one I really like they did about an old sci-fi movie from the 90's... anyone ever watch Dark City?

Since we're getting all old testament Juno Reactor take the biscuit with conquistador 1 and 2.
The band behind many of the Matrix soundtracks, good old fashioned Goa kickass that leads you into a false sense of security then rips out your soul.

Translated Lyric:
Death and nature will be astounded,
when all creation rises again,
to answer the judgement.
A book will be brought forth,
in which all will be written,
by which the world will be judged.
That day of tears and mourning,
when from the ashes shall arise,
all humanity to be judged.
Spare us by your mercy, Lord.
Death and nature will be astounded,

Boards of Canada (the band that influenced Tycho)
Loscil
The Orb (the orbs adventures beyond the ultraworld is regarded as one of the greatest ambient/downtempo albums ever written)
Solar Fields
Brian Eno (music for airports, another classic, and very reflective, I find i need to be in the right head space to listen to this but it is beautiful)

I knew I have heard of Brian Eno before but couldn't place it, which lead me back to one of my favorite movies and soundtracks. And I forgot about this one, what a great ending.

Thanks for the recomendations, listening to Ott right now. I think I am going to have to subscribe to spotify so I can make some playlists with this stuff.

I read a little that Tycho was a "ripoff" of BoC but I am not feeling it? BoC is much darker in my opinion.

I agree about BoC being much darker than Tycho.
I'll leave you with this, the track that got me through my first Ultra distance and one of my favorites of all time. Trust me this track and distance running were made for each other.
I couldn't find the original, this is a remix by orbital that doesn't really hold up.
