Mileage reporting 27th week of 2014

Well my left ankle is still bothering me and last Fridays race made it worse. I have made a decision to give it at least a 2 week break from running maybe 3 weeks. So this morning I walked barefoot in my neighborhood 7 miles which didn't seem to make it any worse. Actually it felt better after the walk. Had a great barefoot walk this morning before the heat.

Thought I saw a lady walking her poodle barefoot but she was wearing tan flip flops which nearly blended perfectly with her very tan feet.

Gonna try to walk barefoot in the neighborhood before going to work this week as the heat wave has arrived here in Nebraska. Temp is to reach 96F today. :(

Everyone's reports sound so fun. I ran 18 miles Saturday morning in Livermore, CA, (visiting husband's family) and I must say they have a pretty nice system of paths. Most of it was easy to run barefoot on, but it did heat up after mile 14, so I put on Luna's. I ran a slow comfortable pace and it felt very reasonable until about mile 15. Most of the advantage of being at sea level (versus my usual approximate 3000 above) was used up by some nice steep hills. My legs are tired, but not sore, except for my left hip, but that didn't start hurting until I spend about 30 minutes in a standing up rocking motion with a niece's 7 week old baby that seemed to want to spend more time with Great Aunt Laura. Nothing else was working to calm him down... :)

My husband was running with me and pretty much stayed with me the whole time. I now hold the dubious distinction of having "helped" him run for a longer time period than he ever had before - because his longest marathon time was less than what we ran yesterday!

Split run today, 2 miles or so in the morning, and another 2 miles or so this afternoon. Bottom of feet felt tender after running on gravel and rough chip seal yesterday. Or it might have been the 4 mile walk on the golf course on Friday and another 4 mile walk golfing yesterday, either way I was looking for smoother places to run today, the heat and humidity was more tolerable today.

I tried running for the first time for many weeks today, after my hernia repair two weeks ago. It felt really good. Slight ache but nothing to worry about. Terrible route though. Lots of loose stones and old Tarmac. One nice short section along the edge of a golf course. Lovely weather though. Very hot. So hot I managed to damage the road! (See below.) Anyway I managed a walk/run of 9.6km. Was also stopped by a lady on a bike who asked about barefoot running as she had given up running for biking due to injuries but wanted to get back into running. Score +1 for the cause. BTW - that's not a running footprint. When I sank in as I ran over it I couldn't resist going back and doing a full print :)

8 miles today at an average pace of about 11:15...but it was varied a good bit...went as slow as 12:30 mm pace fir short stretches, ran a couple miles at 9:50 mm pace (woot!, not bad for a 44 year old with 3 months of training and still weighing 244 pounds :))

The last half mile I did at sub 7 minute mile pace, that was killer.

Only around 24 total miles this week, but a good 5.3 of those miles was sprinting/speed work.

I'm starting to feel lighter and stronger, and the legs are getting stronger.

I ran in Xero's today, for no other reason than to get use to wearing shoes more often, this because I want to do 100 milers a few times a year down the road, and I think its a stretch to do a 100 mile trail run skin to ground...we'll see though I guess...God willing :)...in a bit of irony, I had to spend an hour picking a tiny piece of glass outa my foot and supergluing the hole shut, after I took the Xero's off a block from my home lol

I'm getting faster...had a lot of mental distractions the past few weeks though, so while my body is getting stronger, my mind got weaker and distracted...so this week we'll see about doing something in that area.

I really feel like I pushed the interval/speed work as mentally hard as I could without injuring my body this week, but today's long run could have been much faster, and it was all mental, the body had lots more to give.

I think my body can sustain a sub 9 minute pace for a good bit of miles, but my mind is not strong enough yet, but God willing it will get there...I'm trying to keep things fun, light, and beautiful with the running though :)

Great 5 mile run at 5:00 am. 79 deg. f., 74 % Rh... Saw some rabbits. Had some moments of flow (nice).

Nice time! And did you say it was hilly? Even more impressive if that included hills. Been since spring '13 since I raced a 10k... maybe next year.

thanks! I wasn't sure how to pace this distance and it was crowded the first half mile so it took about a mile to get up to race speed...there was about 2.5 miles of downhill in the first half and around 2 miles of uphill in the 2nd half...on mile 6 i had my slowest and fastest half miles in the same mile...probably should have raced harder the first half...pretty fun anyways!

My fastest 43 and change and that was pretty flat. Dang gotta try harder now! ;)

Two runs so far this week, while following an Endomondo marathon training plan. Monday ran first 20 miler. Target pace was 12:15, but I started to fast and ended with a bit too much walking.

Today went out for a cooper speed test. Including warmup and cool down it was about 3.3 miles.
