Mileage reporting 27th week of 2014

4.8 miles of intervals today...varied it a lot....I pretty consistently walked about 20-30 meters between 'runs', but the run intervals varied.

Sometimes I'd do an all out sprint for 80 yards, next one maybe 200 yards at a 7 mm pace, next one maybe 50 meters at 3/4 speed.

Was fun, and felt like it was a decent workout :)

ran 8 miles quite fast on monday, was feeling sooooooooo good,
and on the finish line jumped in the very cold river, stupid me, had a bad cramp/muscular soreness during 3 days in the left foot/ankle

it disappeared yesterday, with some yoga and massage,
I'm back, with 8 miles again

4.6 miles yesterday and 5.4 this morning. Easy pace. I don't know what was going on this morning, but the stretch of small and lightly-traveled country road was seeing lots of traffic in the south and east directions. Kinda messed with the usual tranquility of running there, when you have keep to the edge of the roadway while a line of cars and trucks go by you. Thank goodness there wasn't much of any traffic going in the opposite direction.

Ran 5.7 km Thursday morning, already getting hot and muggy. Found out my left foot has a built in radar, that allows it to step on rocks almost every time I run. I've managed to place the ball of my left foot on a rock for the last 4 or 5 runs without fail. The rocks may not have been there before I got there, they may not be there next time out, but my left foot will find them!! Lol
I'm also headed to a Spartan Sprint this weekend! :)

Most excellent 5 mile run at 5:45 am.. Beautiful sunrise, rooster crowing, rabbits and some flow going on.
For me it was a nice way to start the 4th of July!!

Tue- copious amounts of beer drinking while camping.
wed- rafting. we got tossed on the first rapids. i went with a bunch of girls, two had external vaginas. they didn't row strong enough to get us around the rock so we flipped over, onto me of course. best part was i sat on the front and everyone sat on the back while we went through one set of rapids.

Had been giving my left foot a small break from running as the ankle has been slightly swollen. Today was the Superhero dash 5K which I signed up nearly 2 months ago. Ran this race this morning and did it in 21 min 39 sec. Pretty good for me! That's about a 7 min mile pace. Lot of people had costumes some where quite nice.

Nice time there Carey!

This morning, another run around Warrnambool. 13.8km out to Logan's Beach and back home via the surf club. A little windy, but the rain stopped not long after I started and held off for the rest of the run. Logan's Beach is a popular whale-watching spot, but I didn't see any whales from the viewing platform. Oh well. I came back through town and had to weave through the morning cafe crowd on the way home - some of the looks were priceless.

8.8 easy miles this morning, little further than intended but since it was it was low 60s and low humidity, it would have been a shame not to take advantage of the weather conditions. I suspect that if the temp had been down in the 50s, I probably would have seen me running faster than 6 min per km pace at my easy pace heart rate level.

Also up now to 730 miles of running so far this year. That puts me up over my record mileage year of 2008 when I ran about 724 miles.

Week two Germany update. 91 miles, 20 of those barefoot. A great hike with my son to the tallest peak in the region. About 4000 vert. in ten miles. He caught a gondola down and I ran 8 miles back to town. The other big one was two days later. 33 mile day. Some of the most difficult miles I have experienced. I ran/hiked to Austria over ridge lines and mountains. 6 peaks and decents. I saw my first trail runner in two weeks over here. He was ahead of me on the trail and I couldn't catch him. I was in a serious bonk at that point with poor fueling. I was quite surprised when he passed me after his summit. He was wearing VFFs. Impressive considering the technical trail. I was too out of breath to say anything. I wondered if he noticed my BRS shirt. Got over my rough patch, hit smooth roads and crusied the last ten miles even did a 7:30 mile. I don't expect too big of a week coming up with family things and getting ready to come home.

I've been busy the last few weeks and not keeping up here lately or running much either.

Sunday - ran with a couple Georgia chapter runners on the hilly part of the Peachtree 10k course plus a a few hill tempo intervals and a 2 couple miles in Peidmont park...8 - 9 miles total.

Wed - upper body ST workout

Friday - Peachtree 10k roadrace...I've ran this race 6 times barefoot and always as a fun run but this year the weather was so nice I raced it for the first time. It was a cool mid 60'sF with lower than normal humidity. Did a 2 mile run/walk to warmup...had a nice race finished a bit over 42 minutes...heard the "barefoot" murmur from the spectators follow me thru the course like a shadow. I even skipped a couple free beers along the way to not mess up my time. After the race ran another 4 miles back to my truck for a cool-down run.

5 miles or so in very hot and humid conditions. +25C and with the humidity it felt in the high +30C and that was at 8 in the morning, too hot to take my dog for a run this morning. Did run with hand held water bottle though. I feel sorry for YOW if he has to battle these conditions for his marathon in Vermont later this summer. Ran a half mary in those conditions a few years back and the last 2 miles to the finish had a lot of people getting first aid on the side of the route due to heat related issues.

First (and only) run for this week today, did 16.3km/10.1mi, very slow...HR was relatively high, but since I did not run the whole week, I guess this was expected...A wonderful sunday morning here in Sydney, with a nice and sunny 18C/65F

5 miles total today, split into two runs...In the heat of the day just after lunchtime I did a 3.26 mile run, first two miles at about 10 mm pace, last 1.2 miles was varied intervals...barefoot first two miles, then Xero's after that.

2.82 miles after dinner, ran on the track shod in Topo M-ST's, was an interesting workout.

My legs feel better at a higher cadence than the ubiquitous 180 bpm, but my cardio doesn't like it :)

So I ran a half mile at a slow pace but with a cadence of around 202 bpm...was fun...after that I sprinted the straights and jogged the curves for the last 2 miles or so...then I went to the gym for a quick weight/circuit training of the upper body, then went to the pool to the 5 foot deep section and did high knee running in place for about 20 minutes.

I'm just kinda listening o my body right now, and lately it has not felt like doing long slow runs, but instead, more intense interval training where I am learning to run light loose and fast again.

Seems to feel right for now but is subject to change :)

It is accelerating my weight loss though, so thats a plus...I had 30-ish mile weeks where I did not loose a pound, but have had a couple lower mileage weeks filled with light faster intervals and the weight is melting off so far...

Posted too soon. Another two miles around town looking for my son. He was fine, just practicing his German at a neighbor's house.

A few more notes. All barefoot miles have been on pavement. I just can't deal with the rocks. I'll make a better effort next week. I am missing skin to dirt.

Sandals are not working over here, just too wet.

The humidity finally got me on a short hike in the heat. Now I know what you guys are talking about.

Not sure what is going on, but very few runners here. More of a cycling area I guess.

10k in only a pair of running shorts. Some people looked scared, others blushed, others again seemed to find it disgusting.
My heel still a bit sore, my technique was bad, and my asthma was lurking beneath the surface, but at least I managed to run in under one hour. Just. On pace to run more than twice as many kms as last year.

damn i got the days wrong above.
wed-beer
th-rafting
f-recovery
sat-50 min walk with dogs. that damn old one set his mind to get home out of the heat and he took off running. hr bike ride.

Impressive miles Rick! And mountains too! I'm really missing being in the mountains, two of my vacations I planned to go to the mountains I couldnt, and the third one in september I think I'm backing out as well. Might be a hiking free year for me. :(

Nice time! And did you say it was hilly? Even more impressive if that included hills. Been since spring '13 since I raced a 10k... maybe next year.
