Hello docs, last weekend had my first 50 miler, I end up with some pain in both arches, tolerably pain, I could walk normally, yesterday when I was massaging the feet I accidentally touch an specifically spot inside the arch, something like a bulge in the muscle (not in the skin), if I press it I feel sensibility (very very moderate pain), then I was feeling the other foot and guess what, the same bulge was there, in a different position, but with the same symptoms.

It feels like if a small rock of 3mm diameter somehow got inside (just an example).

That worried me a lot.

This are not my feet, it’s just to show the exact point of the bulges.

If I bend my toes down I cannot feel it, I can only feel it when I bend my toes up and stretch my feet.

What this could be and how can I get rid of?

Good afternoon!

My first assumption is that you have some swelling in the flexor tendons of the first toe. The pain is a little too far past the joint to be sesamoiditis. I would continue daily massage for now and take a rest from running until the pain subsides. If the problem worsens, get checked out by someone local to you.

Congrats on running a 50 miler!
