Hi all,

Minimalist runner here that "might" make the change to barefoot. I just started running last year in August. A friend at the gym lent me a copy of Born to run & inspired me to start running. I actually started running wearing Altra's (Adam) so there was no transition needed for me.

Yesterday I walked to dog around the block with my gal..... BAREFOOT!!! Ouch ouch ouch ouch!!
This might take a while hahahah.

Regards,
Joe S.

Welcome Joe! Be sure to train on the bricks in Kerrytown!

Ran through there this morning! Wearing my Altras of course. Did 4 1/2 miles before I ran outa time.

This all started a about 3 years ago with a gym membership. A friend opened a couple gyms & had some computer disasters. I was able to fix them & he gave me a membership in trade. Right now I'm good till the end of 2015. Chances are the personal trainers will trash some more computers & I will never have to pay for a gym membership again!

Since then with a combination of exercise & a total dietary changes I lost over 70 lbs.
& feel great! Avoiding grains, legumes, white potatoes & eating lotsa meats & veggies works for me. The running seems to be a natural extension of my workouts. The Paleo/Primal lifestyle website I follow also recommends minimalist/barefoot walk/runs.

There's a bit more of s background.

Regards,
Joe S.

Welcome! You must be a tender foot, but no problem. Just take barefooting in small amounts, and before you know it, you will have conditioned your soles.

When I started mine were as tender as a baby's! I stuck with it, because I decided that it was finally time to grow up!

Stick with it, and eventually, you'll be making your own gravel tray!

And remember folks, this guy didn't just get off the couch and drop 70 lbs and merely COMPLETE a 5k
, he took first place with a 23 minute time!

Welcome! Lived in A2 from 85-91 -- loved it!

Stick to sampling skin-to-ground; You'll be amazed how adaptable your body is!

Cheers

Walking barefoot is more difficult for most people than running is. But, since his foot muscles and bones are'nt ready for prime time yet, beginning with walking should help. He could however start adding a minute or so of rough pavement running per day to his routine to speed up the process and show him how much easier it is.

Welcome Joe... I'm also in Minimalist shoes after reading Born to Run... started running in Vibrams and I absolutely love it. I might move towards barefoot runner but for now I enjoy living in my Xeroshoes.
