What beer are you drinking tonight? For the new forum...

So I got out one of my good beers I'd been aging, this one almost a year in the cellar. Have 3 of them out of the 4 pack still, holding on for special occasion I guess, tonight seemed to be a good time to have. Of all the beers this one has aged the best, I remember it being a bit rough when I had it fresh, it is the strongest beer I've ever had yet at 12%. THe one tonight was very smooth and quite enjoyable. Oh its Dogfish head Palo Santa Marron, aged in Paraguayan Palo Santo wood vessels. Had a couple top shelf margaritas for a late dinner too. Might be a little wobblly but still can take pics an upload em so not that far gone!

I'm usually a hoppy kind of guy and not into darks but dang this one is good not sure if its the aging but im enjoying this one.

Had the Hopslam at a steak/burger/sports bar last Friday. Damn, that's a great beer. But I can't find it in any of the booze shops. They're already sold out. I wonder why it only comes out in limited release. Seems like it could be a perennial top-seller.

Wow, I'm not sure how you found it in Minn., but good for you. I have to scour or go to the brewery (such a chore!!!not ). However, I bought 6-pack today at a local wine and beer shop, and heard the rumor that I should "stock up" since this one is discontinued. TRAVESTY.
Especially since that stuff is way too $$$ to stock up on for my budget.
Good beer.
Great beer, and I've tried similar styles from other breweries. Hopslam hits all the right notes.
I'm thinking of starting a petition, to let them know to keep making this one!!!

The big retailer I usually go to said they got 50 cases and sold out in two weeks. Wish you would've raved about this beer earlier, although at $16.99 a six-pack, I'm kinda glad you didn't.

But what's the deal with limited releases? Is it that they don't think they'll sell enough volume over time to make distribution profitable? I've been enjoying a bottle of SN's Ruthless Rye at the end of the day these days, and it's baffling why it's only sold for a few winter months. It seems just as good as the Torpedo, which is sold year-round. Anyway, at least they got the price right--it's $11.99 for a 12-pack.

I know. That scarcity reinforces our affection, no?
Maybe when they made this beer, they had no idea how good it would be?
I dunno, but I would buy a lot more of it on a regular basis if I could. And if it were still available, it would be a loooong time before I looked for another one like it.

I asked Bells why they don't produce Hopslam all year 'round. Here's what they said [I have added to the reply to make it more BRS-appropriate]:

Thank you for taking the time to contact us [Barefoot Runner Dude]. Unfortunately, there are a few important factors that limit our ability to brew Hopslam year round. [In addition to the distributional problem of us stowing away most of the batch for ourselves, friends, and family.]

Like Two Hearted and Oracle, Hopslam is dry hopped and requires special fermentation tanks of which we only have so many. We are also a seasonally focused brewery and prefer to offer a variety of different beers throughout the year. Increasing the production of any one beer will limit our ability to produce others in our portfolio. [But at $16.99 a six-pack, maybe we should just focus on taking advantage of consumers with the Hopslam.]

Our ability to source ingredients is also a factor. Every bottle of Hopslam has the same amount of hops as 7.2 cases of your average popular light beer. [Just as barefoot running has approximately 7.2 times more fun involved in every step as shod running. But as you know, barefoot running is in the minority; there's only so much fun and hops to go around.]

With all this being said, please know that I have shared your email with other members of our team and we will keep it in mind going forward. [But in truth, most of our clients are drunks and we rarely listen to them.]

I hope this information helps. Please feel free to contact me directly if there is anything else I can help you with. [Although I would appreciate it if you didn't contact me any further. I knew when I got into both marketing and breweries that I was dealing with the Devil and would have to deal with a$$holes, including people without shoes like you.]

Sincerely,

---------- [burp]

I like how you edited out his name, but left his email and his unlisted cell number.

Perhaps, you secretly want us to call him at all hours until he caves? Give us the signal and we will commence Operation Hopslam! :p
How do you know it's unlisted? I wouldn't think he'd send out private info to a website inquiry . . .

But yeah, I thought about that, whether or not to add back in the contact info, but it gives the whole story an air of authenticity. And conflicted conscience if real. I'm not much of a consumer activist, but it'd be great if we could stage a write-in campaign.

In any case, I'm happy to report that Operation Hopslam has already produced results. I went to pick up a six-pack to bring over to a friend's last night, and discovered the booze shop along the way, actually the closest one to my house as well, had several cases of Hopslam left. Coincidence? I doubt it. I think I (of perhaps Sid in a private exchange) must've already brought sufficient pressure. Then they probably asked Google or the NSA to track down my computer and hurried in fresh supplies to the closest store. The idea of a Surveillance State is growing on me! After asking about Hopslam availability at the two biggest retailers closest to me, it didn't occur to me to check out the local liquor store.

I forked over for one six-pack, but now I'm wondering if I can justify going back for more. Maybe I can sell some of the kids' toys or my wife's jewelry on Craigslist.

Google it.

Some professionals will provide their cell as a courtesy, but not want it posted publicly. My oral surgeon gave me his cell number after a procedure, but I'm fairly certain that he didn't want me to post it online.
So it was you who got the Hopslam distributed to my local liquor shop. Thanks for calling in!

Still, seems like surgeon/patient and marketing coordinator/website inquirer involve different degrees of intimacy. But I guess I'm a little out-of-touch in this social media/webworld age. But like I said, the Surveillance State is growing on me--what you give up in privacy, you gain in convenience.

Not quite, but glad that it worked out for you.

It's also fairly common for contractors to give out their cell while they're working on a project, but again they probably don't want you to post them online. I have the contractors' cell numbers for the fence, plumbing, garage door, AC, appliance delivery, pest control, etc.
