Curious Question about Duct Tape

Just curious if anyone has ever tried to use duct tape on the bottom of their feet while running BF... hmmmm.

The guy who ran across North

The guy who ran across North Carolina 760 miles, Matt Jenkins, did. He wanted to raise money and awareness to a youth program that had funding cut. I would think it would roll and bunch up, which would become annoying, pull at your skin, and be difficult to get off.

I used duct tape on my ankles

I used duct tape on my ankles once, because I often accidentally kick my ankles and get blood all over my feet (Those tiny cuts bleed a lot! Especially when the blood gets smeared!) It fell off almost right away, and it wasn't even in contact with the ground. The only way you could really get the tape to stay on would be to wrap it all the way around your foot, but that just doesn't sound comfortable.

Hi McMary!

Hi McMary!

Hey, I just started using

Hey, I just started using rubber huraches in April. I think maybe I wear them too loose? Anyway, I constantly get blisters. I suggest Kineseo-tex tape. It is a "physical therapy" tape meant for keeping muscles intentionally contracted or stretched by pulling the skin certain ways. I find that it stays on when you need it, comes off painlessly, and is pretty durable (at least it stands up to my rubber sole for 5 miles or so.) The downside is that I think it's a little expensive. Of course, cheaper than running shoes.

Coincidentally, I took a walk

Coincidentally, I took a walk BF the other night with duct tape on one of my feet because of a few nasty blisters following a shod 1/2 marathon last weekend. The sensation of being barefoot was completely blocked in my right foot and there was confusion because the left foot felt everything while the other not so much. I took the duct tape off and have run the last two days completely bare.

On the other hand, I love Rocktape! Among other places, I generally use it on my heel and ankle for mild tendonitis and while it doesn't last as long on the bottoms of my feet, it doesn't block the sensory feel of being barefoot. Haven't tried the whole foot yet because so far it hasn't hurt that much.

Interesting. I get some minor

Interesting. I get some minor friction blister/callus type thingys on my middle toes on occasion and was considering duct tape to keep them from happening. I've been trying to focus on lifting my legs, but got one on my last run regardless of all the focus. Its still early in my transition, but if it keeps up I might try it on my little toes.

Zap, it's just a matter of

Zap, it's just a matter of conditioning. Once you've worked through the blistering, those calluses should serve well to protect you from blistering further in the future. If they become large and moveable is when they become a problem. Hopefully, you will have a good form down by then, and this won't be a problem anymore. Be patient. It takes time.

Thanks TJ. Yeah. They're not

Thanks TJ. Yeah. They're not too bad. The skin is getting pretty tough on those toes. I'll leave it be for now.

I think duct tape is better

I think duct tape is better suited for running long distances in shoes. A lot of ultrarunners I know use duct tape on their feet so they don't blister (or to cover up blisters) on their long runs. I can see how it would be a problem for us though...it is pretty thick and blocks out important feedback.

I cut 4 finger of a cotton hand gloves the thumb part remains, wear it in my feet with the thumb part into the toe of my feet. wrap two layer of duct tape around the balls of feet. works really well if your running on rough hot hot asphalt. barefoot feel is almost 100%. Id been putting mileage on it. really great. duct tape is not even torn. Ill show picture when I get a chance. use a hand gloves that is elastic on the wrist part so it get a good fit, the palm part should fall on the ball part of our feet. you can make a spare for use on long run. Its basically a hand gloves wear it in your feet instead, cut the extra length on the finger, wrap around two or 3 layers of duct tape along balls of feet, elastic part of the hand gloves will give it a good snug fit. looks like a VFF thats cut in the middle and open in the front for good ventilation. Duct tape is to prevent making hole under the balls.
I make extra pair today and give it to someone running in shoes in the middle of our group long run, works really well for her being her first barefoot run. Her red nail polish showing, really stylish, next time Ill look for pink duct tape for colorful look. My first barefoot convert.
