10 Types of feet?

The company I work for had a "health fair" day today. There were reps from the Heart Association, Diabetes, Asthma and Allergy, Dentistry, Nutrition etc. People could get their BMI, BP and sugar levels checked - you get the idea.
There was one lady from the BDA Podiatry Center. She had various displays of shoes, trainers etc. and a few pamphlets. I mentioned that I run barefoot and have been doing so for about 3 years and how the pain I experienced in running in regular running shoes had all disappeared since my transition to BF running.
I then got a short but tense explanation that her office was treating lots of people who had taken up the "barefoot running craze" and now they all had injuries from doing so. I was surprised as I had only ever seen 1 other person running barefoot along a road.
She then elaborated that (and I quote) "There are 10 types of feet - and only 1 type is suitable for running barefoot." I don't remember seeing any such assertion in any of the books or articles I have read. I got her to repeat it - just to be sure I heard right. She then said "you are obviously in the one in 10 group."
So my questions to this forum are:-
Is there any truth to her assertion?
What are your reactions to this assertion?
and to think to find out I am only 1 in 10 when I thought I was 1 in a million! ;>)

No.
And remember, a very recent poll of podiatrists concluded that 84.29% of them said not even ONE foot type was suitable for barefoot running.
Run on.

Did you ask her if she was talking about "barefoot-style" running shoes injuries or real barefoot running injuries? She was most likely classifying barefoot-style running shoes as barefoot running, and her numbers are not coming from actual barefoot runners but minshoe runners who have done way too much way too soon, as we all know is common with new minshoe runners. I would have LOVED to call her out on it.

:barefoot: = Barefoot ; :stinkyfeet: = VFF funk, a.k.a., not barefoot

gotta ask those docs if they've ever heard of Wolf's law.

Gotta love the "experts."

TJ - I think you hit the nail on the head there. As I said I have seen very few people running BF. However when I bought my VFF's - the lady who owned the sports shop where I bought them said she had sold "hundreds' of pairs of VFF's. So that tends to point to people trying the VFF's and getting into problems as you suggest.

None of this makes a difference to me - I enjoy BF running and will continue to do so until I am unable to run anymore for whatever reason.

Got to love work-based health events. Remember being lectured about my weight at one, which would've been fine, had the lecture not come from someone with a higher BMI than me - managed to bite my tongue & not ask to see her results on the fitness test. Current place just has a few stalls handing out leaflets.
Would love to know what her 10 types of feet are.

Well - I did send in a couple of questions and observations to the BDA Podiatry Center website. Absolutely no reply as of Thursday evening. Well all that has done is to make me determined to get an answer! I will not be ignored - watch this space!!

Are BDA podiatrists like U.S. podiatrists (physician/surgeon) or like U.K. (neither physician nor surgeon)?
