I will be going for a run in Rehoboth. If anyone would like to join me and make it an official event let me know. my thoughts are we could meet at the running store on Rehboth ave and run up the main drag to the boardwalk, run the boardwalk (back and forth) and return to the meeting point. This should make for a 5k run.

Alternately, there is a 5 k trail run in Assawoman state park that morning. here is the link.

Let me know if there is any interest and I'll get this added to the official event list.

Please also post in the Delaware Chapter to see if you get any responses there. And if they have a Facebook page too. Thanks! Let me know if this turns into something.

Yeah! I'm in! I was going to head to PA and join their's, but if you are going to be in DE, I'm down with doing Camp Barnes. I haven't run a trail in a while but if I can do 13 miles in the crappy roads in CHSP I can handle 6 in a trail.
Let me know for sure you want to do Camp Barnes and I'll post it on the Chapter page.
I'll also e-mail Tim, the race director and let him know what's up.

I'll do the Camp Barnes 5 k. 10k on a trail might be a little much for me currently. my feet are still soft from the winter break.

Should I go ahead and register myself or will you handle as a group that when you contact the race director?

Go ahead and register yourself, I'm not sure what or if Tim will do, I just want to give him a heads up and maybe he'll make mention of it.
Thanks

Thanks Mac! I'm probably going to do day of registration. I'd like to check how the trails are before I commit to the 10k. See you there!

You have to be logged in. You don't need to use it now though, Macdiver already submitted all the info.

Hey Mac, Just FYI, I talked to a couple people who have run this race and it sounds like a no go for barefoot, you might want to bring some protection. Sounds like the trails are very rocky w/gravel. Apparently the course is pretty jacked up. Just hearsay, but be prepared.

Got it. I'll bring resue shoes.

I have a guy from a different website joining us. he is a vff runner. He warned me about the possibility of stepping on monkey balls when running trails in lower delaware. Not sure what they are but I hope they I don't step on one.

Monkey balls are spiney seed pods, they are a bit smaller than a golf ball. Yes, they suck! They are more prevolant in the fall, but there could still be some stragglers.

We have a ton of these all over the place. I had one stuck to my foot for about 5 steps today before I stopped and brushed it off because I couldn't seem to flick it off in stride. Aren't those also called gumballs?

Me too, Mac. That's what we call them in Georgia.

Three of us showed up for the Delaware Camp Barnes 5 k and 10 K. Jaer (a vff runner from another website) and myself chose to run the 5 K. Ramzev ran the 10 K. The 5 k was mostly barefoot friendly. There was a gravel road at the start but it was only a few hundred feet so I just ran it barefoot. The rest of the run was mostly trails or dirt road. One small section of trails was not cleared and there were a lot of pine cones and some monkey balls for my barefoot running pleasure. Both Jaer and myself finished under 30 and I believe Jaer posted his 28.5 time was a PR.

I will let Ramzev describe the 10 k run since I only did the parts that were on the 5 k.

It was a nice run and a pleasure to meet Jaer in person and to catch up with Ramzev.
