Mileage reporting 19th week 2014

2 hr nap today. apparently i was tired.

Line,
I'm curious as to why your slowly increasing your running time and then blowing it with super long races? why not just run longer or run shorter races?

From running, to hiking, to walking, to napping, to...DEATH MILEAGE REPORTING must be just around the corner!

7 or 8 km at lunch time with a work mate. Did a bit of recon on the course for a fun run that is on this Sunday - I haven't decided whether or not to enter yet. It's not a particularly barefoot friendly course, but there are a few spots I might be able to cheat and run on the grassy bit at the side of the road. It might come down to who is running and whether I can find a suitable fancy dress outfit to wear.

Had thought I was going to do hill repeats Tuesday afternoon, but rather quickly realized that wasn't going to happen, so just 2 easy miles of running and walking.

Yesterday morning, 3.9 miles while keeping the heart rate down.

This morning, 3.1 miles, slightly higher heart rate maybe because of bad blood sugars overnight and being somewhat dehydrated.

I rarely have problems with google maps. Mapquest on the other hand.... Rrrrrggggg! Almost always gets me lost, and downtown Portland with ptsd that isn't good. I actually usually use waze now a days on my phone (free app). It always gets me where I'm going so far, plus it has smarts built in and gets me there the quickest way at that particular moment because it knows traffic conditions on route.

Bowel habits are next ...

This may seem comical, but it is a fact. Almost all old people will become obsessed with their bowel movements at one time or another. Grocery shopping will become focused on bran cereals, prunes, and fiber as well as the inevitable forms of laxatives, suppositories, enemas, and antidiar-rhea medications for times when they have overdone the combinations.

Well, I like to run almost everyday and increase that slowly. I can't run every day if I don't increase it that way I can't do it, because that would be too much. I blow it all with long races just because of pure lust and willingness to not listen to my common sense.. and to see if I can do it, if I've become better. It does not make sense. I know.

I dig it and there are some others who train low mileage yet run ultras, so I guess do what works for you and what you enjoy. I have a tendancy to run fairly short runs too mostly because of the same reason, I like to run everyday. If I run longer distances a lot I tend to have more injuries spring up, but running low mileage mostly with the occasional long run feels pretty good.

Sweet 8 mile run at 5 am., 72 deg. f., 83 %RH. slight breeze.
Heard 4 different roosters crowing in different places? (I live in the city)

Ran for about 12 minutes on treadmill today testing out my sandals I finally was able to finish. They were awesome except one minor flaw that I need to fix. When going uphill the foot slides back just a touch in the sandal which make the strap across the front squish the pinky toe a little. Simple little fix and I can get the strap so it won't go across the pinky toes no matter the slope. Really excited as they felt awesome other than that one problem.

Sounds nice! Photos? Thanks!
I will do that Sid. I've got people that want me to make them some already, but problem is with this design (with a normal flat sole) you have to customize to the person everything, from sole to lace to heel strap to lace around ankle. The folks that want them say they look like normal sandals, and that is really appealing I guess because people don't want to stand out much with their footwear. Oh, and the sandal I am using is an old one of mine which is already broken in and molded to my feet. I can see new ones potentially being not as good at first, but getting better with age, kinda like a fine wine. :)

Wednesday - Ran 8 miles barefoot, first 6 with a daughter while chatting, so very pleasant. Then sped up a bit for mile 7 and a lot for mile 8. This was a little tricky since 2-4 classrooms of grade school kids were having a field trip around my pond loop. Their teachers and most of the parents had a bad case of " we own the universe and your presence is inconvenient."

Today I swam, first a 5 minute warm up, then 30 minutes without stopping. Got kind of sick the last 3-5 minutes, but some good belching took care of that...

Later in the evening, about an hours worth of squats while transplanting seedlings to the garden quickly before the rain truned into a torrent.

5.1 miles with my baby girl in the stroller. Did 2.25 miles in my sandals that I am making and the remaining in my vff speeds. The sandals will be pretty sweet with just a couple minor tweaks. I didn't account for the front strap tightening up while going downhill. This created a slight pinch point which is easily solved. They should be frigging awesome for the Rugged Maniac 5k obstacle race in a few weeks. Oh, and its no fun wearing vffs on small gravel on paved road. Ye gads that hurts. Might as well be barefoot. Seemed like the rocks had a tendency to find the thinnest spots which hurt pretty good. It was funny, only on the front part near the big toe did I have this problem. The rest of the foot was protected fine from the gravel.
