Is it the 15th week now? I never know.

First run for a week or so today. 5.7km around the streets.

I jinxed myself a couple of weeks ago by getting excited about my running. I was pushing the long run out, and ran headlong into what Dr. Google described as a bit of an IT Band niggle just after the 10 mile point. Two short runs after that were also slightly painful, so I backed off and took a week off.

I was getting itchy, so I figured a week was long enough in the first instance. I inched along and tried to keep a mental eye on my knee for the first sign of a problem, but I'm happy to say that it didn't complain at all, apart from a slight feeling of 'stringy-ness' in my tendons which is probably just the direct result of being over-conscious of the state of my knee. Phew. Time to come up with a bit of a preventative maintenance plan for the ITB stuff before I blow it again, I think.

Yesterday was such a lovely day, would have been a perfect day to run except for the fact I'm limping along with another miserable cold. Even so, when I woke up yesterday morning, I first though I would go and run at least 4.7 miles and clock in a 20 mile week which I haven't seen in a while because of weather and being sick before. But by the time I was free to run I could feel that I just had no mojo to run thanks to how weak I felt and the sinuses. So I walked instead some yesterday, I could handle that much physical exertion. Even so, when going up a steep hill in one place, that nearly felt too strenuous.

I believe I'm feeling less poorly than I did yesterday, so hopefully I've turned the corner. This cold hasn't been as severe as the last one, so that's good I suppose. Still, I hope I can recover and finally get back to running again without having to worry about weather or being sick for something longer than a week. Or two or three or four.

Just getting over a cold myself. I HATE springtime colds more than at any other time. Winter it feels expected. Springtime it feels like we've already been through enough.
Feel better fast.

Good for you, walking!

13.2 miles at a gentle pace, all in bare feet. Lots of rough asphalt, so feet are a bit tender, but not too bad. Was only going to go about 12, but didn't premeasure the route and it was long. As it was, my hubby upped the speed on his bicycle and got the car to pick me up. (He has been having back trouble and can't run right now, or else he would have run home for the car, like he has in the past.... ) But, this is sooner than I was up to the half marathon distance last year before the race, so it helps me relax about it. Then, I ate a cheeseburger.

sunday: 4 mi am, sunny, about 30F,
lunch: weights, then
2.5 mi with the kids. We were only going to do the usual 1.5 mi, but it was so beautiful and sunny and about 50F, that I cajoled and bribed (2$/mile---outrageous!!) my kids to take another trip around the subdivision.

evening: about a mile of walking around a paved trail in a park while the kids played.

Ok, someone tell me how to attach pics.

m-lifted weights in the school's new weight room! they moved it into the gym this break and i hear they aren't done setting it up. it almost looks like a real gym now. the former weight room is apparently being made into a meditation room. i'll being yoga today(tue) i wonder if it's in that room now.

35 min run on treadmill in my pacers. Forgot how well those puppies fit. So comfy. I may have pushed it slightly to hard today. Hopefully will also have a leather footbed glued to my originals today if I have time. Been pretty busy for me last couple days. Been meaning to get the footbeds glued on for last few months. Can't wait to start running in those again.

monday: late am, about 3 mi around the downtown of my university area.
lunch: some time at the gym, under an hour, ST

tuesday: 2.5 mi am, just before dawn, lots-bunnies-n-such. Nice to finally hear birds in the morning, along with the spring peepers

lunch: ~35 min swim

evening: 1.5 mi with my daughter. Starting to see buds on trees.

Am: run-commute at 38F/32F windchill, felt balmy despite some lingering moisture. Then close to full plyometrics/mobility workout mid-morning. Hello Burpees!

Pm: walk-commute. It was 62 F degrees, so nice I decided to walk in order to soak it all in. Then some pull-downs to make up for missing them last week.

M 4/7/2014
Am: run-commute at 41F. Overdressed with 320 weight jacket. Need to go with 260 weight tops. Took off cap mid-run.

Pm: run-commute at 53F. Then Bottom Pull ST: Deadlifts, Power Clean, Tipping Bird, Weighted Carry. Abide talked me into giving the weighted carry (farmer’s walk) another try. So I walked back and forth in my garage with two 60-lb rubber hex dumbbells, my heaviest fixed-weight dumbbells. Wow, great exercise for grip strength! A good finishing exercise.

Then about a mile or so walking to the mom-n-pop store with toddler in stroller for ribs and then onto school to pick up daughter. I asked the store manager if the removal of the NoSSS sign meant that it was OK to come in barefoot. Last fall, the sign came down a short time after I had given him SBL’s pamphlet, so I had assumed a causal effect. I hadn’t tested out the hypothesis, however, since by then it was winter, and I had stopped walking barefoot for the most part.

Well, no such luck. The manager said they would still prefer that I wear shoes. Maybe I shouldn’t have asked, since up to that point, no one had bothered me about my bare feet. I guess I could've asked him what would happen if I refused, but it’s a neighborhood place, and I don’t want trouble. The nearest decent butcher is 3-5 miles away.

Am: 3.1-mile Run at 33F/24F windchill. This week I’m hoping to establish a consistent early morning running routine. Felt great, and I sped up towards the end. I’ve read in a couple of places that it’s great to exercise 30-40 minutes before breakfast, for a couple of reasons I can’t remember. I'm going to try to run at least three miles most mornings. The one-mile run-commute isn't far enough to feel like a real 'run.'

Pm: 1-mile run commute, then Front Push: Bench Press, Arm Flexion (C-bar), Bench Flies, Arm Flexion (DB), Arm Extension, Rope Push-down, Forearm pro- & supination. I found out biceps curls are properly called arm flexions, so I’m going to indulge my love of technical language and start using that term. Leg curls are now leg flexions as well. Terminological consistency really gets me going.

Am: 3.1-mile Run at 33F, no windchill. I feel mahvelous. Supposed to get up to 70F today. Yippee! Except for my fairgrounds runs, I’ve gone four months now running without a Garmin, à la Dutchie. I really like it. I speed up when I feel like it, and slow down when I feel like it. Just say no to numbers! For route distances, I use Google Maps as a decent approximation.

Nice to finally hear birds in the morning.
I was thinking that same thing!

But, this is sooner than I was up to the half marathon distance last year before the race, so it helps me relax about it.
Funny, my impression is that you've been running long fairly consistently since you first got up there last summer.

Good luck on the marathon training!
Good for you, walking!
Walking is good!

one hour yesterday, one hour today,
road mainly
sometimes I like to get faster and to pretend my form is as smooth as Cucuzzella's one while violins are playing folk music in my head

I'll go back to the trails this week-end, I have to go to Granada, Spain, this friday

32 minutes on treadmill. Felt better today than yesterday so I did intervals for the last twelve minutes or so. Got down to an 8 min pace for a while. Felt really good. Was able to get the leather glued onto my luna originals today also so I should be able to run in those on Friday. Really excited for them to finally be done. I think I forgot to mention this the other day, but I am down 4 lbs in a week. I should be back down below 200 by tomorrow or the next day if I stay on track with my weight loss.

First run of the week today, I clocked in 15.4km/9.6mi along the Brisbane river. first time a guy stops for a talk about barefoot running, he seemed very interested. Trying to cool down before going to work, but it's quite warm up here in Queensland

Nice to finally hear birds in the morning, along with the spring peepers.

yes and no. i like it but they wake me up before i want to get up. even with the window shut.

BL, question. when you say run/walk commute is that to the office? i noticed you did it sunday is why i ask. if so, that sucks.
you asked me a question i forgot to answer. with the torso containing the trunk muscles the arms and legs are called the extremities. a few of their muscles are attached to your trunk, or axial skeleton since you like terminology. ;)

m-after lifting weights and finishing school i went for a run. didn't learn much in any lecture so why not.
t-no yoga. ran in vff. body weights.
w-lifted. body weights. ran. watched "capn 'merica". gave teenager driving lessons. still alive.

oh. almost forgot. i did my squats ass to grass for sure. did my weight and only got two reps. tells me i wasn't going deep enough before. lowered the weight and knocked out a few more reps.

Mike, yes. Personally, I love not having to drive to work. I usually come in for at least a few hours on Sunday because my family sleeps 3-5 hours more per night than I do.

What was my question?

Sounds like you pyramided your squats. That's what I do on all my heavy lifts. Go up incrementally to warm-up, then sets of max weight, then go down incrementally to really tax the muscle. I feel like it's when pyramiding down at higher reps that I get the most benefit, after the muscle has already been fully recruited at max weight. Or you can get the same effect by doing a secondary, lighter weight exercise at higher reps working the same muscles as the heavier one. Like doing dive-bomber push-ups after the bench press.

Oh, yeah, so Wed pm: one-mile run-commute at 69F! But no ST because my wife had just found out that her maternal grandmother passed away yesterday. Living on the other side of the planet really stinks at moments like these. She was a great old gal who bore 15 kids (my mother-in-law was the sixth and the first to survive, then came nine more healthy babies). I bought her beer and cigarettes whenever she came to visit. She smoked her cigarettes inverted, with the tip in her mouth. I think it was to not waste any nicotine-carrying smoke. She will be greatly missed.

Thurs am: 3.1mi/5k run at 44F/36F windchill. Ran with Icebreaker t-shirt and top, no jacket, gloves, or cap. Felt great and broke a sweat. I loves the early morning running. Beautiful bird chirps and the occasional sound of an early commuter's rolling resistance.
