I won myself a pair of Taloppa Barefoot Sandals in the Gear and Footwear section.

My first impression is how small the box was when it arrived in my mailbox. I didn't waste any time ripping into the box and inside is a small cloth bag filled with two black straps that looks like they came off my JanSport backpack, in fact I went and grabbed my bag and they are made from the same material.
Putting them on is pretty straightforward, follow six steps and you are good to go. I threw them on at lunch since sandals are allowed at work and I am know for my minimalist shoes. Unfortunately my first thought was these are not fooling anyone whatsoever. I went back to work with my VFF in my bag and as soon as I walk in my boss comes over and gives me a strange look followed by asking me if I had any shoes on or did I destroy a backpack on my lunch.
Had to throw my VFFs back on and finish the work day. After work I needed to get some groceries so once again I pulled the black straps out of my bag and threw them on. I went to my local grocery store to get some food for dinner. Immediately upon entering the loss prevention guy(yes I live in a sketchy neighborhood) at the front of the store stopped me to ask me if I was wearing shoes. I said yes, but there was no convincing him he said shoes are required by company policy and I could come back once I was wearing actual shoes.
At this point I knew that these weren't going to fool anyone at all. They are selling them for about 25 dollars after shipping if you order them from their website. http://www.taloppa.com and to me that price is absolutely ridiculous. As I said above they are basically the same straps you find on any run of the mill backpack and they don't fool anyone. Their selling point of these is that you can wear them and still be barefoot and still go into places that require shoes. They quote on their website "At first glance Taloppas give the appearance of someone wearing conventional sandals." They may give the appearance as a passing glance but anymore than that and it all looks pretty ridiculous.
With the price being 25 dollars with shipping if you want something like this go to your local fabric store and you can most likely buy the clips and straps for maybe 10 dollars at the absolute max. Also be aware you can get the 4mm xero sandals for a dollar or two more then buying Taloppas. I would not recommend these though I do appreciate the chance to give them a try. The only people I would recommend these to would be someone who is into bondage as you can pull these pretty tight and you get around 10 feet of straps out of the bag.

Yes, that's what I thought as well, when I saw them first in the give away contest: You could make them yourself for much less than they sell it for and probably no one will get fooled by them.
But I would like to know: How do they feel walking and running barefoot? Do these backpack straps actually protect certain tender spots against say abrasion?
Could they be the ideal skin protection for barefoot speed work?
Or are there chafing issues with either straps or clips?

I am very surprised that you had all that trouble when you live in an open minded State such as Iowa maybe is a diference between Des Moines and Iowa City I have gone everywhere that includes restaurants wearing my barefoot sandals(see avatar). I payed ten bucks for them-much better looking if you ask me.
Thank you for writting a honest review.

How do they feel walking and running barefoot? Once you have them on correctly they aren't very noticeable with the exception of the piece that is wrapped around your big toe. That takes some getting use to.
Do these backpack straps actually protect certain tender spots against say abrasion?I didn't feel like they offered any protection against any tender spots. I guess where the straps go under your foot it might protect that one little spot though I have no issues with my feet unshod.
Could they be the ideal skin protection for barefoot speed work? I don't believe so but maybe. I have never really done any serious speed work though.
Or are there chafing issues with either straps or clips? When I first put them on I felt like they moved quite a bit and could chafe, but with adjustments I didn't have any issues that would have caused chafing.

My thought is if I lived in my old neighborhood I probably wouldn't have been hassled just given some weird looks. I had to move suddenly to a less than amazing side of town and the people in my immediate neighborhood are interesting to say the least. Also I think the grocery store I went to has some trouble with their shirt shoes policy.

Yah Dama, if one is going to go with the barefoot sandal look, I much prefer yours. Much more elegant and sexy. What's the point of nylon straps if they're not functional? I don't see nylon as a particularly apposite material for pure ornamentation. But maybe it's a generational thing for us, quien sabe?

I can definitely see why those wouldn't get a second look really because they look like sandals and not just some straps thrown together.

Lee, the sandals are attention grabbers, when I wear them on public areas the men just look but the women are very interested on them they ask me if I sell them and how gorgeous they are. Nowdays, I just wear them when running to avoid all the questions...cause, as you know, I am shy :shy:.

Oh but they do get second looks, quite a few of them as matter of fact.

some of those "sandals" just look ridiculous. i can see why they would make someone look harder. for that same $25 you can get a kit from luna. much better option for when you need to wear something.

Lee, plastic surgery always looks ridiculous, when chosen and not necessary.

That is why I suggested Xero Sandals in the review. I forgot completely about lunas.

Woa, sorry you were unimpressed by them, but I'm sure Taloppa appreciates your honest review. And I'm sure there is a market in need of this product. Hopefully, the next review will also be honest but positive. Toes crossed. Thanks again.

I wish them the best with the product and I'm sure they are people somewhere who would like these. I feel like their first step would have to start at pricing though.
