The Road to Mt. Lemmon

I have begun training for my first barefoot marathon this week. Thought it might be fun to chronicle my training in a blog, something I have never done before. My plan is to run the Mt. Lemmon marathon on October 17th. Why this marathon? It was actually the one chosen by my wife. Apparently she likes to seek the hardest marathons and then encourage me to run them. Actually I think she chose it because it is relatively close to home and it has been a while since I have run a race.

A little history about myself, I have been running regularly for a couple of years, prior to that I was an “on and off” runner. I ran my first and all three marathons in 2009. While I was training for my third marathon I developed ITBS syndrome. While looking for a cure I stumbled across barefoot running and haven't looked back since. My transition started in early October and so far the only race I have run barefoot is a half marathon. Overall my running has been pretty inconsistent since the transition, but has roughly been in the 20-25 mile a week range.

The training plan for this marathon is to run roughly 3-4 days a week and follow the crossfit workout of the day 5-6 days a week. This will be my first marathon training that incorporates a substantial amount of cross training. Typically on any given day I will ride my bike to and from work, and workout in the morning and at lunch. I'll try to keep up with my running to track my prgress weekly. It is difficult for me to edit the blog function with my ancient computer.

Week 1 - I got in 16 miles this week, weight 188.

Week 2 -

Notes: about the Mt. Lemmon marathon. They consider it one of the harderst road marathons. There is over 6000' of elevation gain. It is all uphill. sounds like fun.
