Last Sunday (May 5th) I ran the Toronto Goodlife Half Marathon, my first Half in 5 years. This was also the first time competing 'Barefoot' albeit in my Seeya VFFs. No PB as I wasn't expecting the extent of the rolling hills but nonetheless I am happy to have it under my belt as I get ready for the Toronto Women's Half on May 26th and the Barrie Half on June 16th.
5 years ago as I was training (in traditional shoes) for a Fall half marathon I sustained a stress fracture in my right foot and my doctor did his best to convince me to give up running as he felt I was too old for this sport. After nearly two years of recovery and self doubt I decided to try barefoot running and bought my first vibram KSOs.
Since then I have been a recreational on/off runner but this past winter I set a goal for Toronto Half in May and stuck with the training to success!!
I can honestly say that changing to barefooting has kept me injury free and also improved my time substantially.
